Unified Sports
Unified Sports is a branch of Special Olympics that focuses on including people with
and without intellectual disabilities (ID) through sports. This competitive Intramural
Sports League competes against other Unified teams in our league to crown a champion
per season. An all-star team is then made to compete against other colleges across
Utah in the State tournament.
The winners of the state tournament have the option to compete in the coordinating
National tournament with NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association).
The goal of Unified Sports is to promote inclusion and connection for all participants.
We strive to create a sense of purpose and belonging for all Athletes and Partners
apart from our Unified family.
Kyle (Pickles) Karen, an athlete competing with the U’s unified program, says “unified is where it does not matter who you are or what you do. It's a family tight nit bond that is unbreakable”
Eric Burton a Unified Flag Football Partner and coach says “My unified experience was great. I got to connect with so many athletes and had so much fun, especially making the trip out to Texas for the flag football national championship. Hanging out and bonding with the athletes on and off the field, made this trip such a memorable experience.”
